GitHub Copilot Shows AI Credit Usage to QA Teams

GitHub Copilot AI credit usage is now easier for individual users to track. On July 20, 2026, GitHub announced that Copilot Business and Enterprise users can see the actual number of AI credits used during the current billing cycle, even when an administrator has not assigned them an individual budget.

What changed

The Copilot usage page in GitHub settings previously showed usage as a percentage of an individual budget. For users without such a budget, that percentage did not provide a useful monthly total. GitHub says the page now shows either total credits used in the cycle or credits used against the assigned budget.

Why this matters for QA engineers

QA teams increasingly use coding agents for test generation, flaky-test investigation, CI failure analysis and automation refactoring. Visible per-cycle consumption gives each user a clearer signal about which working patterns may be credit-heavy. It can support practical comparisons such as agent-driven debugging versus targeted chat assistance, or large repository tasks versus smaller scoped requests.

A useful next step

For one billing cycle, QA leads can ask participating users to record a few high-value Copilot tasks and compare them with the usage shown in GitHub settings. The goal is not to minimize every credit; it is to identify repeatable workflows where AI cost, time saved and verified test quality remain in balance.
